Students of NSS should adopt families, not villages

Bhopal: Every student of National Service Scheme (NSS) should adopt a family in the village where the camp is held. Concerning student must keep in touch with the family for minimum one year and apprise it about government’s welfare schemes. Minister of State for Higher Education Shri Deepak Joshi stated this at a meeting of state-level advisory committee of NSS here today.

Shri Joshi said that cadets should inspire village children to play traditional games during camp whereas cultural programmes should be held in local dialect. He said that students should also prepare a report on Panchayat’s work. Public representatives should also be involved in camps. Shri Joshi said that priority should be attached to blood donation and water conservation works. He said that he would review activities of NSS, NCC and Scout-Guide at division and university levels. Shri Joshi said that students of NSS should be associated with activities of personality development cell.

State-level camp at Rewa University

The meeting decided that a state-level camp will be held in February on the premises of Raja Avdhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa. University vice-chancellor will select venue for the camp. The meeting also discussed distribution of state-level prizes.

Principal Secretary Higher Education Shri K.K. Singh asked for cleaning of lakes and rivers after festivals. Vice-chancellor of Barkatullah University informed that 30 villages will be adopted. Two students each will be sent to every village who will persuade villagers regarding Swachchhata Abhiyan and other issues. Vice-chancellor of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya informed that 1822 units of blood were donated at camps. Gwalior University constructed toilets in tribal areas while Jabalpur University undertook cleanliness in Narmada valley.

Students of all universities to be present at Simhastha

The meeting decided that NSS students of all universities will remain present during Simhastha at Ujjain. Each of the students will stay for 20 days. Commissioner Higher Education Shri Sachin Sinha, State Coordinator Shri R.K. Vijay and other officers were present on the occasion.
