State’s leadership’s role in health service sector laudable

Bhopal: UNICEF’s New Delhi-based representative Shri David McLoughlin has said that outstanding work is being done in Madhya Pradesh in maternal and infant health sector. He said that for this state leadership’s role is praiseworthy. Shri McLoughlin was addressing concluding session of a dialogue on the issue here today.

Shri McLoughlin said that, no doubt, there is need to pay more attention to maternal and infant health in the state. But the leadership of government is praiseworthy for the way health schemes are being implemented at a rapid pace in the state. Shri McLoughlin said that difficulties become meaningless if there is willpower to accomplish job. He said that schemes for maternal and infant health started by UNICEF from time to time have also been implemented effectively in Madhya Pradesh.

New Delhi-based National Representative of UNFPA Shri Anders Thomson congratulated Madhya Pradesh on including health in its priorities. Shri Thomson said that more attention is being paid in Madhya Pradesh than other states on maternal and infant health. It is also noteworthy that the State Government has mobilised funds for it from its own resources, which is inspirational for other states. DFID Head Shri Sam Sharp and Commissioner Public Health Shri Pankaj Agrawal also spoke on the occasion.

Collectors of Sagar, Shahdol, Umaria and Singrauli, which are among 17 districts identified for maximum improvement in maternal and infant health, made a presentation of improvement works underway to maternal and infant health in their respective districts.

Director State Rural Health Mission Smt. M. Geeta threw light on action plan chalked out by the institution for improving maternal and infant health.

It is noteworthy that this one-day workshop on maternal and infant health was inaugurated by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The workshop was also addressed by Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram, National Rural Health Mission Director Sushri Anuradha Gupta and Principal Secretary Public Health and Family Welfare Shri Praveer Krishna.
