Special campaign to educate voters to be launched in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: On the directives of Election Commission of India, a special campaign will be carried out during next 2 months in Madhya Pradesh to motivate voters to exercise their franchise. Government departments, voluntary organisations, educational institutions, semi-government institutions, various undertakings, media and social organisations will actively participate in the efforts for increasing voter turnout percentage apart from ensuing free and fair elections. Chief Electoral Officer Shri Jaideep Govind and Additional Chief Electoral Officer Shri B.L. Kantarao were also present on the occasion.

Shri Jaideep Govind said that attention will have to be paid by all that voter turnout percentage is increased compared to Vidhan Sabha elections of year 2008. Special efforts should be made for maximum poll participation of women. Motivators deployed at Rajya Shiksha Kendra and adult education centres should be activated. It should also be ensured that motivators’ names are also included in electoral rolls. Five Dugdh Sanghs under Dairy Federation and its cooperative societies should be asked to educate voters. Builder Association and other institutions should also motivate people to participate in voting. Construction workers should also be urged to cast their votes. Transport Department should motivate voters by pasting stickers and posters on its vehicles. It has now become utmost necessary to educate all eligible voters to exercise franchise.
Shri Kantarao said that arrangements should be made to compile affidavits which will be filled up parents on the motivation of their children to participate in electoral process. It should also be ensured that by School Education Department copies of affidavits reach every school. He also directed to conduct voter education activities at filed level.
Representatives of SVEEP partners including Rajya Shiksha Kendra, Public Relations Department, Dairy Federation, Food & Drug Administration, Regional Transport Office, Indian Oil, Urban Administration & Development Department, Weights & Measures, municipal corporation, My FM 94.3 and Zee News attended the meeting.
At the meeting, information was also given about revised SVEEP Action Plan. The plan has been prepared and sent by Election Commission of India for ensuring voters’ participation in ensuing Vidhan Sabha elections to Chief Electoral Officers of Madhya Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram.
