‘Sakshar Bharat’ in 42 districts of Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal : Sakshar Bharat (Literate India) Scheme would be implemented in 42 districts of Madhya Pradesh. The scheme aims at imparting functional literacy to unlettered persons of over 15 years of age. The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has instructed to constitute literacy committees upto Panchayat level after identifying the districts within three months.

It was informed at the meeting that as on year 2011 the literacy rate of Madhya Pradesh is about 71 percent. The male literacy rate is 80.5 percent and female literacy rate is 60 percent. The aim of Sakhshar Bharat scheme is to raise the minimum literacy rate to 80 percent. Its target groups are women, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and minorities. At Panchayat level two motivators would be appointed for implementation of the scheme. One of them would be female.

The meeting decided that the marks secured in 12th examination would be the base of selection of the motivators. It was also decided to appoint the motivators for a period of six months. They would impart primary education to unlettered people of over 14 years of age through volunteers. The skills of the neo-literates would be upgraded and the scheme also provides for measures to continue education. Principal Secretary, School Education Shri Sanjay Singh and other senior officers concerned attended the meeting.
