Regional journalists should also be apprised of glorious history of newspapers

Bhopal: Public Relations and Energy Minister Shri Rajendra Shukla has said that journalism is regarded as the Fourth Column of Democracy. Country and state boast of glorious history of journalism. A number of journalists had enthusiastically participated in country’s freedom movement. Regional journalists can also be apprised of this glorious history by holding workshops at various places. The Public Relations Minister stated this after inspecting Madhavrao Sapre Newspaper Museum and Research Institute here today.

The Public Relations Minister said that this 30-year-old museum has earned country-wide fame due to its rare documents. This is an important centre for researchers of newspapers. Shri Shukla lauded efforts of museum’s founder Shri Vijaydutt Shridhar.
Shri Shridhar informed that the museum was established on June 19, 1984. During 30 years, newspapers, magazines, books, manuscripts and other documents of the country and abroad are being preserved at the museum as national intellectual heritage. The museum has 25 thousand newspapers and magazines, 41 thousand books, 750 manuscripts, letters of about 3500 eminent editors, about 1000 letters of citation, gazetteers and dictionaries. He informed that Patrakarita Puran is the first reference book of Indian journalism, which has been published by Sapre Museum. It contains information about significant events. Journalism had started treading in right direction from the beginning of 20th Century. This reference book contains all these significant chronologies. Shri Shridhar informed that the museum is also publishing Bharatiya Patrakarita Kosh, Jal Chaupal and Aanchalik Patrakar regularly.
The Public Relations Minister was informed about various galleries of the museum and Regional newspapers of various languages and photographs of senior editors of the country and abroad displayed there. He was also informed about upkeep of the museum.
