Record Rabi irrigation this year

BHOPAL: The Water Resources Department of the state undertakes record irrigation for rabi crops this year. The potential of about 29 lakh 54 thousand hectare area for irrigation has been created by the department out of which about 17 lakh 94 thousand hectares belongs to rabi crops.

The rabi irrigation performed this year is about 14 lakh 30 thousand hectare which is 64% more than eight lakh 70 thousand hectare Rabi irrigation made during the year 2005-06.Beacuse of increase in irrigation area about eight lakh farmer families progresses. The production was also increased and reached a record value of Rs. 1800 crore.

The senior officers of Water Resources Department made review in Gwalior, Rewa, Hoshangabad, Datia and Sagar before start of Rabi irrigation this year.

The instructions were given for keeping canal trajectory clean. The illegal pumps and siphons were banned and Water-logging system was also introduced.

Patrolling was also done. The steps were also taken for proper release and supply of water from different canals which also help in adequate supply of water to farm land.
