Power generation capacity goes up by 4195 MW in state

Bhopal: In view of ever-increasing demand of power, intensive efforts have been made in the state to increase power generation capacity. As a result, power generation capacity has increased by 4195 MW in the state during the last eight and a half years. At present, state’s power generation capacity is 9437 MW (including Central plants’ capacity of 2524 MW).

A target has been set to increase power generation capacity in the state by 6679 MW during the next three years. About Rs. 4954 crore will be spent during the year 2012-13 on construction of new projects and renovation and strengthening of existing generation units.

MoUs have also been signed with 43 private companies for generation of about 64 thousand 570 MW power in the state. One of these companies has started power generation. Some companies have started construction works.

In view of increasing demand of power in the state and effective steps to increase power generation capacity, maximum peak hour demand of 8546 MW was met on March 3, 2012. This is a record in the state. A target has been set to transmit eight percent more power in electricity network than last year. Against this target, 12 percent more power has been supplied in the first quarter of the current year.
