Bhopal : People of the country have unflinching trust in the army and army personnel regarding safety of the country. Directorate of Ex-servicemen’s Welfare will be given a new shape with a view to making available more employment opportunities to ex-servicemen and their families. Efforts will also be made to increase quantum of assistance for ex-servicemen and widows of World War-II. These views were expressed by Home Minister Shri Umashankar Gupta at monthly convention of ex-servicemen here today. Director Ex-servicemen’s Welfare Shri George Mathai, ex-servicemen and widows of World War-II and other ex-servicemen were also present on the occasion.
Minister Shri Gupta said that officers posted at the District Ex-Servicemen’s Welfare Office should work with the spirit of service. Besides government assistance to ex-servicemen, they should also motivate social organisations to extend financial and medical assistance to ex-servicemen. Shri Gupta also laid stress on making initiative to make jobs available to ex-servicemen.
Home Minister Shri Gupta honoured 24 ex-servicemen of World War-II with shawls and Rs. 10 thousand 500. This includes Rs. two thousand financial assistance, Rs. three thousand from Home Minister’s Discretionary Fund and Rs. 5,500 of amount of Armed Forces Flag Day. Another widow Smt. Aneesa was provided Rs. 5,500 from the funds of Flag Day. Food grains were also distributed to ex-servicemen and widows.
At the outset, District Ex-Servicemen’s Welfare Officer Colonel D.C. Goel welcomed the guests and threw light on the office’s activities.
