National Green Tribunals, Tiger Census Result towards End of the Year: Ramesh

Bhopal: Union Environment minister Jairam Ramesh has said that National Green Tribunals will be established nation-wide after approval from parliament, reported PTI.

“The discussion of setting up National Green Tribunal has already began in the Parliament and once both the houses gives its approval, specialised courts for trying cases under environment and forest laws will be set up in the country,” the minister was quoted as saying.

He made the statement while talking to reporters after the seventh convocation of the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) in the city.

“It will be like circuit-bench of the courts and four such benches in different regions of the country including Bhopal will be set up in the country where all cases related to environment and forest can be filed by anyone,” he was quoted as saying.

Ramesh hoped that it would materialize by the end of the year, said report.

About constituting National Environment Protection Agency (NEPA), the minister said that he would table legislation on the issue in parliament in August and would take care of implementation of laws related to environment, report said.

Besides, he said that results of tiger census would be available by November, report said.

“This time the tiger census is being conducted in a more scientific manner while earlier it was based on pugmarks. Hope the count will be over 1400,” he was quoted as saying.

On the controversy involving megastar Amitabh Bachchan sharing dais with Congress leaders, he refused to comment on the issue.
