Former MLA Vimal Chopra, corporator Mrityunjay join BJP

nFormer independent legislator from Mahasamund assembly constituency Vimal Chopra and independent corporator of Raipur Mriyunjay Dubey joined BJP on Friday.

At a simple function held at BJP’s state headquarters Ekatma Parisar on Friday afternoon Chopra and Dubey formally joined party in presence of its national vice president and former chief minister Raman Singh and senior leader Brijmohan Agrawal.

Chopra already had an inclination towards the BJP and once served the party as its MLA. But after he was denied party ticket in 2013 assembly elections, he left the party and won the elections as an independent candidate.

The joining of Chopra would boost the prospect of BJP candidate Chunnilal Sahu who is locked in a direct contest with Congress’s Dhanendra Sahu in Mahasamund Lok Sabha constituency.

Mriyunjay, a popular youth leader, is a corporator from the capital city’s Sundar Nagar Ward. It is speculated that the BJP might field him as its Mayor’s candidate in the civic bodies elections slated in a couple of months from now.
