Polls in 5 states between November 7-30, results on December 3.

Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, MP, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana will be held from November 7, the Election Commission announced on Monday. The counting of votes will take place on December 3.

Five states – Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telanagana – will vote between November 7 and November 30, right in the middle of the festive season, the Election Commission announced today. Counting of votes will be held on December 3.

According to the schedule, all states will have single-phase voting except Chhattisgarh where elections will be held in two phases.

Polling in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases.

– Phase 1: November 7, 2023

– Phase 2: November 17, 2023

Rajasthan will go to the polls in a single-phase election on November 23, 2023

Madhya Pradesh will also have a single-phase election on November 17, 2023

Telangana election will be conducted in a single phase on November 30, 2023

Mizoram will witness its state election in a single phase on November 7, 2023

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the elections will see 60.2 lakh first-time voters. There will be 8.2 crore male and 7.8 crore female voters. There will be 1.77 lakh polling stations across the five states. Additionally, webcasting facilities will be available at 1.01 lakh booths to enhance transparency and monitor the polling process.

 

He also stated that the Commission was committed to making electoral rolls inclusive and ensuring a high turnout. He emphasised that their focus would be on roll-to-poll conversion, ensuring that eligible voters are able to exercise their democratic rights.

 

The Election Commission has emphasised its commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in these states. Stringent security measures will be put in place to ensure the safety of voters and the integrity of the electoral process. The cVIGIL app can be used to file complaints, and action will be taken within 100 minutes, the Chief Election Commissioner said.

As the election dates draw closer, political parties are expected to intensify their campaigns, vying for the support of voters. The outcomes of these elections will not only have a significant impact on the political landscape in these states but also set the tone for the Lok Sabha polls next year
