Make adequate drinking water arrangements in rural areas during summer

Bhopal: Public health Engineering Minister Shri Gaurishankar Bisen has directed officers to ensure adequate drinking water arrangements in rural areas during ensuing summer season. He also directed officers to hold constant discussions over the issue. Shri Bisen was reviewing departmental activities in Gwalior and Chambal divisions at a meeting in Bhopal today. Departmental Secretary Shri S.K. Mishra and Engineer-in-Chief Shri N.K. Sehra were also present on the occasion. At the meeting, Vidhan Sabha constituency-wise review of hand-pumps’ installation was also undertaken.

Minister Shri Bisen said that drinking water schemes lying closed in some villages of the district should be re-started in consultation with concerning collectors. He said that piped water schemes are to be run by Gram Panchayats in villages. Problems of representatives the Gram Panchayats not running this scheme should be heard and effectively redressed. At the meeting, progress of implementation of Mukhyamantri Pey-Jal Yojna was also reviewed.

It was informed at the meeting that 102 projects costing Rs. 10 crore under the Mukhyamantri Pey-Jal Yojna have been started this year in Gwalior division. So far, 97 schemes under the Mukhyamantri Pey-Jal Yojna have been completed in the division. As many as 52 schemes under the Mukhyamantri Pey-Jal Yojna have been started in Chambal division. Directives have been given to officers to complete these schemes within the time-limit. It was informed that 325 hand-pumps have been sanctioned Vidhan Sabha constituency-wise in Chambal division, out of which 258 have been installed. Out of 450 hand-pumps sanctioned for Gwalior division, 313 have been installed. Directives were given to install remaining hand-pumps in both the divisions by March 31 in any case.

It was informed at the meeting that 36 thousand 114 hand-pumps are functioning in the state. As many as 271 hand-pumps have stopped function in the area due to sinking of groundwater level. The PHE Minister directed to chalk out alternative scheme to install new hand-pumps at these places. At the meeting, progress of drinking water arrangements was also reviewed.
