M.P. Secured Top Position in Country under N.U.L.M.s Shelter for Urban Houseless Persons Component

Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh has secured the top position at national level in the year 2015-16 under shelter for urban houseless persons component of the National Urban Livelihood Mission. At present 100 shelter sites are being upgraded and operated in 24 cities. Out of 33 new shelter sites, 29 have been completed and remaining 4 will be completed soon. This was informed in the first meeting of Deendayal Antodaya Working Council formed under the Mission. Chief Secretary Shri Basant Pratap Singh presided the meeting held at Mantralaya today.

Moreover, under the social unity and institutional development, an administrative sanction has been given for establishment of 30 urban livelihood centers in 26 cities. Also approval has been given for implementation of components i.e. self-employment programme, social unity and institutional development and 3 components to help street vendors in second phase under the Mission for the year 2017-18. These components will be implemented in all the urban bodies of the state. Furthermore, approval has been given to implement all the 6 components of the scheme in 70 cities having more than 50 thousand population to benefit beneficiaries in large number.

Secretary Urban Development Shri Vivek Agarwal informing about the components and progress status of the Mission said that there are 6 main components of the Mission. These components include social unity and institutional development, skill training and employment, self-employment programme, capacity development and training, assistance to street vendors and shelter for urban houseless persons. The Mission is under implementation in 55 cities in the first phase including 51 district head quarters and in Pithampur, Nagda, Dabra and Itarsi having more than one lakh population.

It is informed that under the urban street vendors’ component, projects costing Rs. 5 crore 60 lakh have been approved earlier towards 2 each in Bhopal and Jabalpur, 5 hawkers corners in Chhindwara and One vendor market in Ujjan.

Additional Chief Secretary Panchayat and Rural Development Shri Radheshyam Julaniya, Principal Secretary Public Works Shri Pramod Agarwal, Principal Secretary Commerce and Industry Shri Mohammad Suleman, Principal Secretary Social Justice Shri V.K. Batham and Secretary Finance Shri Aniruddha Mukherjee were present in the meeting.
