Kshipra Barrage filled upto brink due to Narmada-Kshipra Link

Bhopal: Kshipra Barrage constructed for supply of drinking water to Dewas city once used to dry up in May and June plunging entire Dewas city in drinking water crisis now remains filled upto to the brink with Narmada water throughout the year. This has been possible as a result of Narmada-Kshipra Link Project. Through the project, Narmada water is lifted upto a height of 348 metres and released at originating point of Kshipra river through a 48 km long pipeline. Fulfilling dream of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan to ensure continuous flow of water in almost dried up Kshipra river, Narmada water from the project was released in it on February 25, 2014.

Full tank level of Kshipra Barrage constructed for supply of drinking water to Dewas city is 494 metres. It is filled upto 490.45 metres with Narmada water. Dewas Municipal Corporation is drawing 150 MLD drinking water per month from it. The project is meeting drinking water needs of about 33 thousand tap connection holder families in the city. The project is also capable to meet future needs of drinking water in the city.

Narmada-Kshipra Link Project is designed to flow 432 ML water daily into Kshipra. The project was constructed by Narmada Valley Development Authority in 14 months at a cost of Rs. 432 crore. Since launch of the project, 35.25 MCM water has been released into Kshipra river. Due to it, ground water level in Kshipra trajectory areas has also increased. Due to it, villagers are benefiting from rise of water level of wells and handpumps.
