Kashmiri student missing in Bhopal

BHOPAL: A boy named Kaiser Ahmad Dar, 25, son of Ghulam Rasool Dar of Babgam of Chandgam Pulwama, who came to Bhopal to appear in entrance test for M. Phil in Chemistry in Sagar University, Bhopal, has been missing since December 24. The student had left for Bhopal by train from Jammu on December 21.

He came to pursue higher education in Madhya Pradesh, is missing since December 24. The parents of the student and other relatives are studying in other Indian states are worried about their safety.

Kaiser had done his M.Sc from Barkatula University, Bhopal, in 2009. Kashmiri students have lodged an FIR in the P/S Talia Thana (Bodwara) Bhopal.

“On December 22, he reached Bhopal and next day left to stay with a local friend Mumtaz at Budwara. However, on December 24, we learnt from Mumtaz that Kaiser is missing after he had gone to recharge his phone at 8:30 pm,” Kaiser’s friend Sameer told media men over phone from Bhopal.

Sameer said he along with other Kashmiri students tried to locate Kaiser but in vain. “Finally, we lodged a missing report with local police but they have failed to trace him,” he said.

Kaiser’s disappearance has raised concern among the Kashmiri student community who are pursuing education in MP and other states of India. “We are already reeling under the threat of Hindu wing student’s organisation and political parties including the ruling party of state BJP in MP. We fear that Kaiser might have been detained or arrested for being a Kashmiri,” a group of Kashmiri students studying in Bhopal, told media men.

They said in July this year the MP government had formed a committee to scrutinise Kashmiri students. Pertinently, thousands of students from Kashmir pursue post-graduation and other degrees in 50-60 colleges in Bhopal including Hamidia College, Safia College, Benazir College, Jawaharlal Nehru College, Indra Priyadarshani College, MLB College and Baraktaullah University.

Back home, Kaiser’s parents, relatives and friends are shocked by his sudden disappearance. “We are shattered. He used to call us daily informing about his welfare. Our parents are in deep shock.,” said his brother, Ishtiyaq Ahmad.
