Hailstorm-affected farmers to be given relief on top priority: CM

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that hailstorm-affected farmers will be given relief on top priority. He said that he will not let tears to come in farmers’ eyes due to this calamity. CM Shri Chouhan was addressing farmers’ conventions at villages Moodra and Naulas after visiting hailstorm-affected areas in Vidisha district today.

The Chief Minister visited villages Shahshabad and Badher in Vidisha district. He inspected crop loss in fields of affected farmers Bishan Singh and Gyan Singh.

Shri Chouhan said that over 20 thousand villages in the state have been affected by hailstorm. Such a calamity he has never seen before. Shri Chouhan said that state government has taken extraordinary decisions in favour of farmers to meet challenge of this calamity, which were not taken by any government before. He said that if required, funds for development work will be curtailed to provide relief to farmers.

The Chief Minister informed farmers that Re. one per kg wheat and rice will be given to farmers who have suffered over 50 percent loss. Recovery by banks and moneylenders has been suspended. Strict action will be taken against moneylenders if they use force to recover loans.

On the occasion, a Rs. 65 thousand cheque was presented to the Chief Minister for relief to affected farmers. This amount was donated by professors and employees of SATI Engineering College Vidisha.

CM tours hailstorm-affected villages in Raisen district: After Vidisha and Rajgarh districts, the Chief Minister toured hailstorm-affected villages in Raisen district today. At village Chhater, he inspected damaged wheat and gram crops of farmer Yogendra. Shri Chouhan said that farmers should not feel lonely and helpless since state government stands by them in their hour of crisis.

The chief Minister said that apart from compensation, every type of assistance will be provided to farmers. He said that apart from crops loss, compensation will also be given in case of death of cows, buffaloes, cocks, hens and chickens and damage suffered by potters. He said that no stone will be left unturned in providing assistance to farmers even if Central government does not provide funds for the same.
