Grievance Redressal Authority constituted in three districts

Bhopal: District-level Grievance Redressal Authority has been constituted in Harda, Betul and Khandwa districts. Each Authority will have a Chairperson and four members. The Authority has been constituted in compliance with the Supreme Court order passed in the case of Shramik Adivasi Sangathan v/s State of Madhya Pradesh and others.

The Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court will nominate retired District and Sessions Judges as the chairpersons of these Authorities. Members will be nominated after consulting the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, the Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission, the Lokayukta and the Chairman of State Public Service Commission. Secretary of the concerning District Legal Service Authority will be the Ex-officio Secretary of the Authority. The Authority will take up legal process to implement and follow up the directions given and recommendations made by the Supreme Court.

The Authority will mainly seek information about misuse of office by a government servant (including the police) or a person, filing a false complaint, not filing an FIR etc. Presently, the Authority will enquire into incidents which have taken places one year before receipt of information. The Authority will enquire into such an incident and if it is found true then send its recommendatory report for necessary action to the District Judge, the State Legal Service Authority and the Chief Secretary. The Authority will also follow up implementation of its recommendations.

Every scheduled tribe person is eligible to receive free of cost legal assistance as per provisions of Legal Service Authority Rules 1987. If a tribal person is arrested in Harda, Betul and Khandwa district, written intimation of arrest will have to be sent within 24 hours by the arresting officer to the Chairman and Secretary of the Authority. Secretary of the District Legal Service Authority will be bound to extend free of cost legal assistance to the concerning person.
