Vocalist of Bhopal sets record by singing for 25 hours

BHOPAL: Vasudev Sarkar in an attempt to set a world record for the longest singing session, sang at a stretch for around 25 hours in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal city. Sarkar sang a whole gamut of songs ranging from old melodies to patriotic and spiritual songs.

Nitesh Sonekar, who coordinated the accompanying orchestra, played for 25 hours without a break. Sonekar said he didn’t think it is possible at first and he wanted to give musicians a break. But the band insisted on playing for the whole duration.

Sarkar said that he always wanted to do something special in his life. “I had planned it long time back. I still have an interest in music. And we should do something that makes us feel we are doing something different in society. So, that is why I was thinking that we should do some programme like this, it is for greater achievement,” he said.

The 55-year-old singer wants to be listed in this year’s almanac of Limca Book of Records.

Nitesh Sonekar said, “When the 25-hour opportunity came up, I wanted my band’s support. I had planned to set up three teams doing 8-hour shifts. But my team said it would be a single team and they would play for 25 hours with Dada (Vasudev Sarkar). When I got this support I prepared and told Dada we would play with him.”
