Excellent Performance by MP in MNREGA implementation

Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh has been performing excellently in MNREGA implementation. According to Union Government’s latest quarterly delivery monitoring unit (DMU) report, Madhya Pradesh has performed better than several other states and is in top-10 states in five categories. Not only maximum number of villagers have been provided employment in the state with successful implementation of Mahatma Gandhi NREGA, but permanent livelihood sources have also been created. Payment of Rs. 120 per day is being made on an average to labourers. Payment of wages is made on the basis of quantum of work.
DMU report is prepared on the basis of quarterly review of Planning Commission of India. As per the report for the period from January to March 2012, Madhya Pradesh retained its place in top-10 states in five of seven categories. As per the report, Madhya Pradesh stands third in total expenditure under MNREGA, fifth in generating mandays, fifth in the number of families completing 100-day labour, sixth in making employment available to families and tenth in generation of scheduled caste mandays.
According to monthly information system report of the Union Government, employment has been made available under MNREGA by generating 94.31 lakh mandays. As many as four 4.89 lakh families were benefited. Of these, 27 percent were scheduled tribes, 20 percent scheduled castes and 42 percent women. Till the month of May, work of 24,728 days has been accomplished in Madhya Pradesh under MNREGA.
Income increased, rural scenario changes : It has been mentioned in the survey conducted by Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore and draft handed over to Madhya Pradesh State Employment Guarantee Council, Bhopal and implementation of the scheme has curtailed migration of people from villages. According to IIM, Indore, 65 percent villagers have admitted that their income has increased due to MNREGA and life has become prosperous. They informed that their income has gone upto 24 percent while 88 percent villagers lauded MNREGA’s significant role in creation of permanent assets in villages. MNREGA has also led to increase in agriculture production. Villagers have also been able to change crop pattern.
