Every school in Madhya Pradesh to have toilet facility within a year

Bhopal: Toilets will be constructed in all schools of Madhya Pradesh within a year. Madhya Pradesh will become the first state to fulfil the wish of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. While reviewing status of toilets in schools at an important meeting here today, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed to take target of constructon of toilets in all schools within a year as a challenge.

Shri Chouhan reviewed availability of toilets in schools at a high-level meeting of departmental officers here today. Shri Chouhan said that Maryada Abhiyan is underway in the state. Apart from schools, target should also be fixed to construct toilet in every household. He said that arrangement of water must be made positively wherever a toilet is constructed.

Toilets should be constructed in a way that they are useful and durable for long time. Availability of toilets in schools should be surveyed by launching a campaign. Repairable toilets should be repaired within time-limit. The toilets having become totally useless should be replaced with new ones. He directed to improve design of school toilets wherever necessary. He said that toilets must have ventilators and natural light.

It was informed at the meeting that of one lakh 21 thousand 693 schools from primary to higher secondary levels in the state, 18 thousand 619 schools need toilets. It was informed that about 90 percent schools have toilets. The Chief Minister said that survey of cent percent schools in the state should be undertaken and real situation of useful and useless toilets should be known. He reiterated the Madhya Pradesh should become the first state in completing this scheme.
