Establish sub-committee to incinerate Union Carbide Chemical waste : Gaur

Bhopal: Bhopal Gas Relief & Rehabilitation Minister Shri Babulal Gaur in New Delhi today attended a meeting of Group of Ministers (GoM) on Bhopal Gas Tragedy and placed the views of the State Government before the GOM. He called for constituting a sub-committee for selecting Incineration Centre where testing of waste sample can be conducted for incinerating the chemical. He said that in all there are 22 Incineration Centres in the country where such waste can be incinerated. He informed that at present the samples of chemical wastes are being tested in SGS Laboratory Gurgaon.

Shri Gaur said that the State Government will put its point of view before the Supreme Court as the case is pending with it. He also informed that Pithampur Laboratory is not well-equipped with latest techniques required for disposal of such waste. He also said that the views of the State Government and sentiments of the people of the State should be kept in mind before taking any decision.

The GOM was held under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Shri P. Chidambram, Union Health & Family Welfare Minister Shri Gulam Nabi Azad, HRD Minister Shri Kapil Sibbal, Union Environment Minister Smt. Jayanti Natrajan, Union Housing & Poverty Alleviation Minister Ku. Shailja, Union Law Minister Shri Salman Khurshid and senior officials of Central Government and Principal Secretary Bhopal Gas Relief & Rehabilitation Shri Praveer Krishna.
