Deep faith in nature and Indian philosophy offer solution to environmental crisis: CM

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that deep faith in nature and sense of respect for is the Indian solution to prevent perils of climate change. He said that nature holds enough resources for all living beings. Mindless exploitation of these resources has resulted in serious environmental problems like climate change and global warming.

Shri Chouhan was addressing a national seminar on “Environment, Climate Change and Indian Philosophy – From Crisis to Solution” at the auditorium of Madhya Pradesh Council for Science & Technology here today. Science & Technology Minister Shri Bhupendra Singh, Health Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra, Urban Administration & Development Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa and large number of scientists and subject experts from state and country were present on the occasion. The seminar was organised by Environmental Planning and Coordination Organisation with the cooperation of State Climate Change Knowledge Management Centre and Madhya Pradesh Council for Science and Technology.

The Chief Minister said that Indian culture teaches to pay respect to rivers, hills, trees & plants and all other living beings. Every deity has a pet animal for riding. He said that Western thoughts bring about problems like environmental crisis and climate change whereas Indian philosophy has a holistic approach to the issue. Therefore, a single consciousness is perceived to permeate in all components oof environment, human beings and animals. He said that the state government has made coordinated efforts to revive rivers, reduce environmental pollution and undertake large scale plantations for dealing with risks of climate change.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister released an action plan on climate change prepared by Climate Change Knowledge Management Centre.

Environment-friendly technology may be developed only through Indian philosophy: Shri Suresh Soni

Keynote speaker Shri Suresh Soni said that human race is passing through the most polluted age due to mad race for development. If it is not prevented now, existence of human life will be endangered by the end of this century. For this, all dimensions including psychological, philosophical, political and economic need to be changed. Tendency to regard mind and matter separate should be shunned. Environment-friendly thinking and technology will develop only through global vision of India. For this, society and government should come together. Efforts should be made to exploit nature upto the quantity which can be replenished. He said that Madhya Pradesh can show to the world implementation of this philosophy. There is abundance of natural resources in the state. He stressed the need for de-polluting Narmada river and Amarkantak, undertaking efforts to awaken those living on the banks of the rivers and revival of water bodies.
