Construction works underway to supply quality power

Bhopal : Construction works are being undertaken at various levels by the Central Region Power Distribution Company to ensure smooth power supply and effective consumer service. Besides vigilance checking and installation of meters outsides houses, large-scale capital works are also being undertaken for reducing technical and commercial losses. Low-tension lines are being replaced by high-tension lines and aerial bunch cables are being laid to check unauthorised use of power. For energy audit, meters have also been installed on 33 KV and 11 KV feeders. Cent percent meterisation of houses is also being undertaken.

For strengthening network, infrastructure development works are being undertaken in 31 cities under R-APDRP Scheme at a cost of Rs. 833 crore. So far, separation of 59 feeders has been completed. Additional power and distribution transformers are being installed on them besides capacity augmentation works. A target has been fixed to reduce AT&C losses by 15 percent with a view to ensuring supply of quality power to consumers.

Various works under ADB Scheme are in progress in 16 districts under the company’s jurisdiction. The company is undertaking works to install remote-controlled meters on the premises of 4560 high-value consumers at a cost of about Rs. five crore in Bhopal and Gwalior regions. So far, billing has been started by installing modems on meters on the premises of 4047 consumers. The company is also doing remote metering work on the premises of 3834 high-value consumers in Gwalior region at a cost of Rs. four crore. Feeder separation works are being undertaken separately for domestic power connection in rural areas. Renovation work of all the sub-station has been started. As many as 292 sub-stations have been energised.

With a view to strengthening power network in 161 cities in 16 districts under the company’s jurisdiction, the company will construct 132 new 33/11 KV sub-stations, 1864 kilometer long 33 KV lines and 724 kilometer long 11 KV lines at a cost of Rs. 146 crore. Projects worth Rs. 970 crore have been sanctioned for 16 districts under Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme. So far, 211 villages have been electrified and intensive electricity undertaken in 3445 electrified villages at a cost of Rs. 416 crore. Free of cost electricity connections have been given to one lakh 36 thousand BPL families.

Under new agriculture pumps scheme this year, a target has been set for 1466 kilometer long 11 KV lines, 5580 new distribution transformers and extension of 288 kilometer long low-tension lines for energising seven thousand pumps. Of this, so far 2498 pumps have been energised by laying 541 kilometer long lines, installing 1960 new transformers and laying 104 kilometer long low-tension lines.

Taking a serious note of complaints regarding replacement of defunct transformers during Rabi season, the company has implemented SMS-based transformer management system through which transformers will be replaced after receipt of complaints from farmers through SMS. Other complaints will also be redressed with transparency through the system. It will also help reduce rate of transformer failure as a result of which revenue will be increased.
