CM wants water problem resolved in 3 districts

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has instructed officials to resolve the scarcity of potable water in Bemetara, Balod and Durg districts where ground water is contaminated by heavy metal and salt.

At a meeting held at his residence on Saturday, Baghel sought a comprehensive surface water-harnessing plan to resolve the drinking water problem.

He passed the instructions while chairing a review meeting of the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Co Ltd (CSPDCL) and Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA).

Officials said that drinking water facility has been provided to 5,998 villages and habitats by installing 11,459 solar water pumps and 281 solar water purification units, benefitting 3.25 lakh families.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to make available electricity in remote areas with solar technology.

Under the Sour Sujala Scheme, 78,730 solar pumps have been installed. It has helped to irrigate 2 lakh and 46 acres of land. In 2020-21, 20,000 additional pumps will be put up to provide irrigation to 50,000 acres of land, an official press release said.
