CM reviewed rescue works, instructed officials to take immediate step
Bhopal : Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed administration of districts affected by excessive rains to maintain high alert for 24 hours and undertake immediate relief and rescue works in case of floods. Shri Chouhan convened a high-level meeting here today and reviewed flood relief and rescue works in the state. He also assessed the situation by undertaking an aerial survey of affected districts. Forest Minister Shri Sartaj Singh and Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram accompanied the Chief Minister during aerial survey.
Aerial survey : Chief Minister Shri Chouhan undertook an aerial survey of Bhopal, Raisen, Vidisha, Hoshangabad, Sehore, Harda and Dewas districts today. As many as 50 villages in these districts are affected by floods while 20 of them are marooned. Crops have been affected in a number of villages. Marooned people are being shifted to safer places on a war footing. Disaster management teams have been constituted in every district. Nine persons have died in recent spell of rains. Assistance worth Rs. 1.50 lakh each is being made available to their families. The state-level flood control cell is working round-the-clock. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan instructed that field staff of district administration should remain on high alert and extend assistance to affected persons. The State Government stands by people in their hour of natural disaster. Work of coordination in relief and rescue operations at Bhopal has been entrusted to Additional Chief Secretary Shri I.S. Dani.
Review meeting : Several districts of Bhopal and Hoshangabad divisions have been affected by floods due to incessant rains during the last two days. It was informed at the review meeting that help of Army is being taken for relief and rescue operations in Hoshangabad. Helicopters of Air Force have also been called there. As many as 1200 persons have been given shelter in five relief camps in Hoshangabad city. About 1000 thousand persons of 20 flood-affected villages of the same districts have also been moved to relief camps.
The administration has rescued 250 persons who had taken shelter in a marooned petrol pump at Harda. Ten villages have been affected in Raisen district. As many as 500 persons of Nemwar in Dewas district have been given shelter in relief camps. It was informed that Bargi Dam is three meters below the full level while Tawa Dam has filled up. About five lakh cusec water has been released from this dam. Indira Sagar Dam is also two meter below its level. All the gates of Kerwa Dam have been opened. Kolar Dam is filled up only 44 percent so far. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan directed that flood-affected persons should be provided assistance on top priority. If needed, holiday can be declared in schools. He directed that Chief Secretary undertake daily review of flood relief and rescue situation. Additional Chief Secretary Home Shri I.S. Dani, Agriculture Production Commissioner Shri Madan Mohan Upadhyay, Principal Secretary Water Resources Shri R.S. Julaniya and senior officers of concerning departments were present at the meeting.
