CM launches dual polio immunization programme

Bhopal. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched incorporation of IPV for dual immunization from polio here today. On the call of World Health Organisation, Inactivated Polio Virus Vaccine (IPV) is being launched in 126 countries including India. First phase of ‘National Launch’ of IPV has been done in 6 states of India including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Punjab and Assam.

The Chief Minister launched the programme by handing over IPV to parents of Pratyush, Divyansh, Munni, Meena and Mausami who had come from Kolar, Banganga and Sunkheri. Under the programme, on vaccine would be injected with third doze of oral polio vaccine (OPV). The vaccine will be administered to newborn at the age of 14 weeks (3 and half months). In case of delay, this vaccine can be administered within one year of age. Through India has become polio-free from March 27, 2014, but polio cases are still appearing in neighbouring countries (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria). Danger of polio exists in India due to arrival of people from these countries. Therefore, resurfacing of polio can be effectively prevented through dual security of IPV.

This vaccine for children of state are being made available free of cost at all government health centres and anganwadis. The vaccines is highly useful, safe and free of side effects. Even after launch of this vaccine, Oral Polio Vaccine (Two Drops of Life) would continue. Launch of IPV is an important measure as final attempt to eradicate polio through the world.

Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa, Principal Secretary Health Smt. Gauri Singh, Principal Secretary Medical Education Shri Vinod Semwal, Commissioner Public Health Shri Pankaj Agrawal, Mission Director Shri Faiz Ahmad Kidwai and UNICEF’s representative Shri Anil Gulati were also present on the occasion.
