CM discussed PMGSY implementation Jairam Ramesh

BHOPAL: With the Centre giving its in principle consent for providing funds under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) for smaller villages, the dream of the people of 2,494 villages in Madhya Pradesh to have all weather roads would be fulfilled soon.

According to sources, the issue of providing funds for connecting villages with less than 1,000 population under PMGSY had been raised by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan with Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh during his recent visit to New Delhi.

The proposals to connect villages of Madhya Pradesh with population of 800 to 999 via roads under PMGSY will be sent shortly to the Central Government, they said.

The Centre has given its in-principle consent to the proposal put forth by the Chief Minister, thus paving the way for construction of roads in 2,494 villages having a population of 800 to 999. After connecting all villages with population of 1,000 and above with all-weather roads, the State Government had been pressing the Centre to accord sanction to the proposal to connect 800 to 999 population villages under PMGSY.

Once the tendering process for these roads is completed, the proposal for connecting villages with the population between 600 and 799 can also be forwarded to the Centre for approval, the sources added.

Also the Centre has praised the State’s Rural Road Development Authority for implementing the scheme at a faster pace. Madhya Pradesh has so far constructed 47,500 km long roads under PMGSY.
