Chalk out strategy to deal with drinking water crisis: CM

Bhopal. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed to chalk out a strategy to deal with drinking water crisis in the state. Drinking water problem should be solved on a war-footing. It should be ensured that drinking water is supplied regularly in urban and rural areas during summer. The Chief Minister reviewed drinking water situation here today. Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa also attended the meeting.

The Chief Minister said that handpumps that have become dysfunctional due to sinking of water table should be re-started through riser pipe. Arrangements should be made to ensure that piped water schemes in rural areas continue to function. Arrangements to transport water should be made wherever necessary. Repairs of dysfunctional handpumps should also be monitored.

It was informed that Drinking Water Conservation Act has been enforced in 33 districts. Out of total 5 lakh 16 thousand 57 handpumps in the state, 4 lakh 93 thousand 260 are in working condition. In districts, 2 lakh 13 thousand 926 metre long riser pipes are available. Rural drinking water monitoring system has been evolved.

ACS Finance Shri A.P. Shrivastava, Principal Secretary PHE Shri Ashwini Rai, Principal Secretary Revenue Shri K.K. Singh, Principal Secretary Urban Development and Environment Shri Malay Shrivastava and Secretary to CM Shri Vivek Agrawal were also present on the occasion.
