BJP MP president Rakesh Singh lands party in soup, says ‘terrorism a symbol of penance and sacrifice’

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party president Rakesh Singh while addressing a rally in the state said that people who wear saffron can never be a terrorist and termed terrorism as a symbol of penance and sacrifice.

Singh gave this statement while talking about party’s Lok Sabha nominee from Bhopal Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur. Slamming Digvijaya Singh, who will be facing Sadhvi Pragya in Bhopal, Singh said that when the election comes Congress and leaders like him start visiting temples to woo the Hindus.

Thakur, 48, is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case and is currently out on bail. She will face Congress’ Digvijaya Singh from prestigious Bhopal constituency which is a BJP bastion.

Pragya filed her nomination papers after police registered an FIR for her remarks on the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

Meanwhile, All India Ulama Board lodged a complaint against Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur for hurting sentiments of the Muslim community by her remarks on Babri Masjid demolition.

The complaint was filed at Aishbagh Police Station under Sections 124A, 153A, 153B, 147, 505A, 298 and 295 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The District Election Officer and Collector Sudam Khade ordered the police to file an FIR against Thakur for her statement as it violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) which is currently in force.

“I will go to construct the Ram Temple. I have said it yesterday and I am not denying it that I had gone there. I have demolished Babri structure. He is my Ram ji and no one can stop me from making a grand Ram Temple. The nation is Ram, Ram is a nation,” Thakur had said.

Sadhvi Pragya was earlier in news for her controversial statement on Hemant Karkare, the Mumbai ATS chief who had died during the 26/11 terror attack. Sadhvi had said that Karkare died because she had cursed the officer. Her statement sparked outrage and later she issued an apology.
