Bandhavgarh Tigress Died of Internal Haemorrhage: Officials

A tigress in Bandhavgarh National Park which died on Wednesday died of internal haemorrhage caused probably by a vehicle hit, said media reports citing officials.

“The autopsy report of the tigress suggested death due to internal haemorrhage caused perhaps by being hit by a vehicle,” Chief Wildlife Warden RS Negi was quoted as saying.

AB Srivastava, a veterinary expert, under whose guidance the autopsy was performed, said: “The tigress had suffered multiple injuries probably after a vehicle hit.”

On Wednesday, officials of the park were informed about the tigress lying injured near a water source but the tigress looking distressed died within few minutes of the forest department team reaching the spot

The wildlife department is now looking after its cubs.

“The post-mortem also revealed that the tigress was around eight years old, and not three years as presumed earlier,” he was quoted as saying.

Investigation is going on to locate the vehicle which hit the big cat.

“The forest department has sought the help of the police and forensic team to locate the vehicle,” Negi was quoted as saying.

He said that as per gate entries, eight vehicles had entered the park on Wednesday and a forensic examination of the vehicles would be conducted, said reports.

Besides the tourist vehicles, the forest department’s vehicles that had entered the park would also be checked, since there are no eyewitnesses to the incident, reports said.

Meanwhile, a forest department team is keeping an eye on the tigress’s cubs.

The cubs are aged around 5 months and are being closely monitored and special care would be given to them, Negi said.
