Baghel urges PM to include forest dwelling farmers in PKSN Thursday, 13 June 2019 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that farmers of the state who are residing on forest land should also be given benefit under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PKSN) scheme.

These farmers having land title under forest rights act are presently not entitled for Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, and hence they too must be included in the list of beneficiaries, he urged the PM.

“As their socio-economic condition is much weaker, the Samman Nidhi to them should be doubled to Rs 12000 from the present Rs 6000’’, Baghel further demanded.

In the letter, the CM apprised Modi that the farmers having rights over forest land are not included in the list of beneficiaries. They are engaged in farming in forest land and are from below poverty line (BPL), he said.

“These deprived farmers should be in the priority list as there economic condition is very weak. There are a total of around 4 lakh such farmers in the state’’, the CM added in the letter.
