84,358 additional houses allotted to Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: The Union Government has allotted 84 thousand 358 additional houses to Madhya Pradesh under the Indira Aawas Yojna. Apart from sanction of Rs. 290 crore 58 lakh for these houses, 50 percent amount of the Central Share to the tune of Rs. 145 crore 29 lakh has also been released. Of the additionally allotted houses, 53 thousand 360 houses have been sanctioned for beneficiaries of the Forest Rights Act-2006 and 30 thousand 998 for landless rural families under the Vasbhumi Protsahan Yojana. With this additional sanction under the Indra Aawas Yojna, Madhya Pradesh’s allotment for the current fiscal has doubled. So far, one lakh 68 thousand 716 houses have been allotted to Madhya Pradesh under the scheme.
Panchayats & Rural Development Minister Shri Gopal Bhargava informed that allotment of 84 thousand 358 houses under Indira Aawas Yojna was sanctioned to Madhya Pradesh for the current fiscal. For this, the Union Government has released Rs. 144 crore 42 lakh to Madhya Pradesh in the beginnning of the running financial year. Since Madhya Pradesh is being allotted much less houses as compared to other states, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan had been urging Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Union Ministers time and again during the last five years to allot adequate houses under the scheme as per population of Madhya Pradesh. A resolution was unanimously adopted during Vidhan Sabha session in December urging the Union Government to allot additional houses with a view to removing injustice with poor rural people.
It is noteworthy that poor houseless rural people of Madhya Pradesh had become victim of erroneous surveys conducted in the years 2001-02 and 2002-03. In these surveys, kavelus in kuchcha rural houses were described as tiles. Due to this error, kuchcha houses were enumerated as pucca houses. Even now, 73 lakh out of one crore 11 lakh poor rural families do not have pucca houses. As a result of this survey, very less number of houses were being sanctioned to Madhya Pradesh as compared to Bihar, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra. During the current fiscal also, Madhya Pradesh was allotted only 84 thousand 358 houses under Indira Aawas Yojna.
In this background, the State Government launched the Mukhyamantri Grameen Aawas Yojna under which each rural beneficiary is given Rs. 70 thousand loan and subsidy for constructing house. So far, over one lakh houses have been sanctioned under the scheme.
