24-hour power supply from Jabalpur

Bhopal: Process of 24-hour three-phase power supply to non-agriculture sector and minimum 8 hours in agriculture sector in the state is set to be started from Jabalpur district. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will launch ‘Atal Jyoti Abhiyan’ for this on January 20. In Jabalpur district, the scheme will directly benefit 1352 villages, 31 thousand 263 agricultural consumers, over 4 lakh 48 thousand low-tension consumers and 306 high-tension consumers.
Shape of scheme in Jabalpur district: Under scheme in Jabalpur district, works have been undertaken for laying 1883 kilometer long 11 KV lines, cabalisation of 1464 km long low-tension lines and infrastructure development works including installation of 2444 transformers of 25 KVA capacity each. Under the scheme, arrangement of independent power supply to 177 feeders has also been made.
Results: As a result of works undertaken under various schemes, power losses have come down to 10 percent from 15 percent at a number of feeders. In rural areas of the district now, distribution loss was to the tune of 43 percent in the first quarter of the year, which has come down to 27 percent. Number of consumers in the rural areas was 1.70 lakh which has increased to 2.05 lakh in the year 2012 following start of this scheme.
Benefits of Atal Jyoti Abhiyan: Implementation of the Atal Jyoti Abhiyan will ensure 24-hour power supply on three-phase leading to global communications to the benefit of common people. Facilities of railway reservation, banking, online payment etc. will reach villages on a large scale. Light, refrigeration, entertainment etc. also depend on electricity. Living standard of people will increase due to 24-hour power supply. Besides, educational facilities will increase on a large scale and internet connectivity will be within the reach of all. Similarly, health facilities will also be within the reach of villages all the time. Increase in job opportunities will bring down rate of migration from villages to cities and establishment of new industrial units will become possible in rural areas.
Increase in power supply: Hours of power supply are being increased constantly in the state during last few years. About 422 million units of power are estimated to be supplied during the year 2013-14. This increase amounts to 17.20 percent.
Increased input in Jabalpur after increasing supply hours: Hours of power supply have been constantly increased in Jabalpur district also during last years by increasing input. Following feeder separation, power supply quantum will go up by 70 percent in the year 2013-14 as compared to 2010-11.
Minimum 8-hour power supply for agricultural works: Minimum 8-hour power supply will be ensured for agricultural works through separated 11 KV feeders in rural areas. This will increase area under irrigation in the state and water sources will be properly tapped.
