1722 km roads to be built under Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna

Bhopal : A sum of Rs. 626 crore has been sanctioned for construction of 1722.32 kilometer long 426 roads in Madhya Pradesh under Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). After construction of these roads, 16 villages having over 1000 population, 474 villages having 500 to 999 population, 98 villages having 250 to 499 population and 48 villages having below 250 population will be linked with all-weather roads with development blocks, tahsils and district headquarters. Besides, proposals for construction of 3,164 kilometer long roads are also in the process of sanction.

Panchayats and Rural Development Minister Shri Gopal Bhargava informed that due to efforts of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, transport facilities are being extended even in remote areas of the state. Roads are being built at a rapid pace under Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna and Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojna. General category villages having less than 500 population and tribal villages with less than 250 population are being linked with all-weather roads under Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojna.

So far, total 49,775 kilometer long 874 roads have been constructed in the state under Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna in Madhya Pradesh. Construction of these roads has provided all-weather road facility to 5,769 villages having upto 1000 population and 4,100 village having upto 500 population.

Roads are also being constructed in Madhya Pradesh with financial assistance of Asian Development Bank. Madhya Pradesh Rural Roads Development Authority is building 9,658 kilometer long 1991 roads with the assistance of ADB. Of these, 7,296 kilometer long 1,423 roads have been constructed. The Union Government has given sanction of Rs. 532.82 crore for construction of 1656.71 kilometer long 458 roads in eight districts of the state under Integrated Action Plan. Construction of these roads will provide transport facility to 996 habitats in these districts. Process is afoot to construct these roads.

Construction of 96 major bridges has also been sanctioned under Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna. Of these, 14 bridges have been constructed. The Union Government has given in-principle sanction for construction of 248 bridges in the year 2011-12.

Last year, 2,926 kilometer long 877 roads were built in the state under Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna. During the period, 2,329 kilometer long roads were renovated at a cost of Rs. 239.80 crore and 9,000 kilometer long roads built five years ago were maintained.
