149 new posts for Animal Husbandry Department of state

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh government has given a number of gifts to the Animal Husbandry Department during year 2012. Before this, about 90-95 veterinary surgeons in the department used to retire on the same post. In the new set-up, a number of new posts have been created including one of Director, two Additional Director, 21 Joint Director, 105 Deputy Director, 52 Veterinary Civil Surgeon and 45 posts of Veterinary Breeding Officers. Thus, the number of posts in the departments has increased from 75 to 224. Sanction to creation to such a large number of posts in the department has been given first time after 1956 when the state came into being.
On the very first day of year 2012, information about Presidential assent to Madhya Pradesh Gau-Vansh Vadh Pratished (Sanshodhan) Vidheyak-2010 was received. Following this, the Act was notified in the gazette and then was promulgated on March 5. In the amendment Act, sentence for cow slaughter has been increased from three to seven years.
The same year, online veterinary treatment facility was introduced in few districts. Under the e-Vet Project, veterinary treatment services are being made available through paravets to cattle breeders at their doorsteps. Cattle census was also started this year.
The State Government also announced awards for outstanding Gaushalas in the state. At a workshop on “Improvement in cow progeny” organised by Gau-Palan Evam Samvardhan Board at Bhopal on January 9, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that country’s first and unique cow sanctuary will be developed in Shajapur district for conservation and augmentation of bovine animals. Animal Husbandry Minister Shri Ajay Vishnoi showed promptness in implementing the Chief Minister’s announcement and foundation stone of Kamadhenu cow sanctuary was laid on December 24 this year, a day before the birthday of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The cow sanctuary will come up at village Salriya in Susner tahsil of Shajapur district.
New livestock development policy implemented
The State Government has chalked out and implemented a new livestock development policy. The decision to constitute Animal Breeders’ Associations at each panchayat of the state and Vatsa Palan Protstahan Yojna to promote cattle of indigenous species were also implemented during year 2012. The year also witnessed four-fold increase in milk production. Per day average collection of milk in the state has been recorded as one lakh 33 thousand 204 kilogrammes. During the current fiscal, one crore five lakh cattle heads are being vaccinated, which is one lakh more than previous year. The State Government implemented award scheme called “Gopal Puraskar” for felicitating breeders of cows with maximum yield.
