Village Panchayat Punishes Rapist by Five Slaps

In a shocking judgement, a village Panchayat in Ghaziabad punished a man found guilty of raping a minor girl by hitting him with a shoe five times, said media reports.

According to reports, a minor girl was allegedly raped by her uncle on Saturday, but the incidence was not reported to the police.

Conducting the trial on its own, the Sualana village panchayat held man guilty of the crime and let him go after five hits from a shoe, said reports.

Besides, the panchayat forbade the family of the victim from reporting the crime to the police, said reports.

However, girl’s mother intervened in the matter and a case was registered against the accused on Monday, reports said.

“After my daughter told me about the rape I confronted him. He asked me to settle the matter among ourselves. Then I went to the police station to lodge a complaint,” the victim’s mother was quoted as saying.

Police is now looking into the case, said reports.

“We got information of rape and on the Panchayat’s decision. FIR will be filed,” police officer Raghuvir Lal was quoted as saying.

The accused has reportedly been arrested.
