Vijayawada Commissioner, Five Other Cops Suspended

Vijayawada Commissioner of Police KV Rajendranath Reddy and five other officers have been suspended as they were held responsible for the escape of Congress MP L Rajagopal from the government hospital on Sunday night.

Ordering an investigation into the incidence, the State Cabinet instructed the police to initiate criminal proceedings against the senior police officers and also against Rajagopal.

After convening an emergency Cabinet meeting this morning, Chief Minister K Rosaiah told reporters that the Government is suspecting connivance of the Vijayawada police which facilitated the industrialist MP to escape from the hospital.

“We have asked the police not to overreact but to act and they cannot ignore their responsibilities. Such inaction of police personnel will not be tolerated and severe action will be initiated,’’ he warned.

He said that cases will be initiated against Rajagopal as well and stated that the Government would not sit quite if anyone plays such tricks. He pointed out that there are certain limits to the acts of politicians and breaking the law or provocating public against each other will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Five other officers suspended by the state government includes Assistant Commissioner of Police AV Subba Rao, Nunna Inspector of Police K Dharmendra, Machavaram Circle Inspector Ch Lakshmipathi, Governorpet Sub-Inspector P Bhaskara Rao, and achavaram Detective Sub-Inspector RVS Kamalakar.

Mahesh Bhagawat, DIG Eluri range, has been given the additional charge as the Vijayawada Police Commissioner.

In addition, the DIG suspended Pulivendula Circle Inspector Ramana, Sub-Inspector Parthasarathy Reddy, AR Sub-Inspector Doraswamy Naik and three other constables for their inaction in preventing some miscreants who set ablaze to the BSN L godown, Tahsildar’s office and also the Roads and Buildings office at Pulivendula on December 19.
