Toll Rises to 214 as Cold Intensifies; Fog Affects Flight, Train Schedule

Death toll due to cold wave has soared up to 214 across the country as weather conditions become more intense. Dense fog has disrupted rail and air traffic in the national capital.

In Uttar Pradesh, 10 more deaths were registered.

Dense fog disrupted operations at the Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi on Friday for second consecutive day, affecting the schedule of more than 50 flights.

Reports said that general visibility was reduced to zero while runway visibility hovered between 50 and 100 metres. Yesterday, about 100 flights were badly affected.

Rail services were also affected due to fog. A number of trains were either rescheduled or cancelled.

Jammu and Kashmir experienced severe chill with Leh being the coldest part of the state where mercury dipped to minus 21 degree Celsius, followed by Kargil at minus 18 deg C
