Toll in Assam’s Twin Blasts Rises to Eight

In twin blasts in Assam’s Nalbari town, the death toll has soared up to eight with one more victim succumbing to injuries overnight.

Officials said that anti-insurgency operations have been stepped up across the state by security forces.

According to a police spokesperson, an injured victim died at a hospital late on Sunday, thus taking the toll to eight.

It may be mentioned that at least 54 four injured are still receiving treatment in hospital with at least four them being critical.

The twin blasts occurred on Sunday in Nalbari town, about 70 km west of Assam’s main city of Guwahati in a span of about 40 minutes beginning 10 am

Police held the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) responsible for the twin blasts.

“This is definitely the handiwork of the ULFA. We had intelligence inputs, but then it is not always possible to prevent all their plans,” Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told.

However, the ULFA denied carrying out the explosions.
