Supreme Court stays investigation in case of Ishrat Jahan case

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday the Supreme Court stayed investigations into the Ishrat Jahan encounter case after IPS officer GL Singhal, filed a petition in the apex court seeking reconstitution of the SIT team that was investigating the case.

The Gujarat High Court-appointed SIT has just one member Inspector General of Police Satish Verma left now. At the time of its composition, SIT had senior IPS officers Karnail Singh, Mohan Jha and Verma.

Four people been accused of being Lashkar-e-Toiba members and that they were plotting to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Ahmedabad police.

Vadodara GL Singhal Deputy Commissioner of Police, was part of the police team that gunned down Ishrat and along with three men – Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar – on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.
