New Delhi: The Supreme Court today adjourned the ongoing hearing of Triple Talaq till September 6 and extracted ‘Issue of triple talaq has to be examined on the touchstone of Constitutional framework & earlier verdicts’.
Chief Justice of India realised the seriousness of the issue governing the talaqs in Muslim community. Taking serious note of the matter, the apex court asked all the respondents to frame legal issue concerning the matter.
Notably, sizable number of Muslims have been raising their voices for ban on male dominated practice of Triple Talaq and terming it as ‘un-Islamic’.There have been claims that the practice has been remained due to misinterpretation of the Sharia law and Quran.
Muslim men can be separated from their wives after just saying the word ‘Talaq’ three times. Shayra Banu took the issue to the court and challenged the validity of ‘Triple Talaq’ while citing her fundamental rights.
