Sonia Seeks List of Cong MPs Skipping Question Hour

A day after MPs’ absence in Lok Sabha during Question Hour, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has sought a full list of parliamentarians who skipped the important parliamentary proceedings.

Reports said that the move came a day after nearly 34 MPs, who had questions listed against their name, failed to register their presence in the House.

In the Question Hour, only 2 out of 28 Congress MPs were present in the House. The Congress chief could take disciplinary actions against those who missed the significant proceedings despite questions listed against their name.

It should be noted that even after Monsoon session of the parliament, Gandhi had instructed party MPs to be present in the House after low presence was registered in the House during crucial debates.

For the first time in two decades, Lok Sabha’s Question Hour collapsed after only 34 MPs turned up prompting Speaker Meira Kumar to adjourn the House within 30 minutes of its assembling.

The Speaker also expressed serious concerns over the MPs repeated failures during such occasions.

Last time, Lok Sabha’s Question Hour had collapsed in 1991. Similar developments had happened twice in 1983, five times in 1985, three times in 1988 and twice in 1989, according to Parliamentary records.
