Sena Strikes Back, Shraddha Jadhav is Mumbai Mayor

Retaining power in the 228-member Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Shiv Sena candidate Shraddha Jadhav was elected Mayor on Tuesday, Bagging 114 votes, Jadhav scored 15 over her nearest rival Pricilla Kadam of the Congress, who ended with a tally of 95.

Jadhav, who replaces party colleague Shubha Raul as mayor, was first elected corporator from Parel as an Independent back in 1992, she later joined the Sena.

The Samajwadi Party, with seven members and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), with six corporators in the house did not participate in the election, which required members to raise hands in support rather than casting their mandate in a secret ballot.
