SC Stays Death Sentence to Nasir in American Centre Attack Case

In 2002 Kolkata American Centre attack case, the Supreme Court has stayed the death penalty awarded to the convict Mohamad Jamaludin Nasir, said media reports.

Nasir one of the three people, including Aftab Ansari, who were convicted in the attack which killed five policemen.

The Calcutta High Court maintained the death sentence to bothe Nasir and Ansari.

Ansari, Nasir and five others had appealed to the high court against the death sentence given to them by a city sessions court.

Ansari and Nasir’s death sentence was upheld while the punishment of Hasrat Alam, Sakib Akhtar and Bobby was reduced to life sentence.

Two others were freed due to lack of evidence.
