Price Rise: BJP MPs Walk out of LS; Party Rally Causes Traffic Jams in Delhi

Protesting against price rise, BJP MPs staged a walk-out of Lok Sabha and thousands of party activists assembled from across the country in Delhi participated in a protest rally, causing massive traffic jams in various parts of the national capital, said media reports.

According to BJP leaders, nearly 300,000 activists are to attend a meeting at the Ramlila ground, of whom nearly 10,000 will march to parliament, said reports.

To register protest against inflation, party MPs headed by Sushma Swaraj walked out of Lok Sabha as soon as House met for the day today to join the rally which is to be addressed by senior party leaders, including LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and BJP chief Nitin Gadkari, reports said.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said that hundreds of thousands of party members came from all over the country to take part in the protest, said reports.

Denying that inflation is caused by natural calamity, she alleged that rising prices is an outcome of wrong policies of the government and reported scam, reports said.

“Price rise is not an outcome of any natural calamity, it is the outcome of the wrong policies of the government,” Swaraj was quoted as saying.

Swaraj said that that her party members are walking out of Lok Sabha to join those who have come from different parts of the country in the National Capital to protest against price rise, said reports.

The rally caused huge traffic jams in various parts of the city with thousands of policemen having been deployed to ensure the rally passes off smoothly, reports said.

Rajya Sabha

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day as a mark of respect to the sitting member of the House Krishna Lal Valmiki, who passed away early on Wednesday morning, said reports.

The members joined the presiding officer in paying tributes to the Parliamentarian, reports said.

The Chairman Mohd Hamid Ansari described him an able parliamentarian and a dedicated social worker, said reports.

The members observed two minutes silence. Valmiki represented the State of Rajasthan in the House, reports said.
