Chimney Collapse in Jhansi, Almost 50 Labourers Trapped under Wreckage

Nearly 50 labourers are still trapped under the wreckage of the chimney of a power plant that collapsed Monday afternoon in Jhansi, said media reports.

According to SSP Vinod Kumar Dohre, incident took place yesterday when labourers were resting after lunch and six of them were taken out Monday itself.

The army has been called in for rescue operation and gas cutters and earth movers are being used to clear huge pile of debris, reports said.

The chimney, 220-metre high, was being constructed by a Central agency at Parichcha thermal power station.

Reports said that there were inputs indicating that the chimney was slightly lop-sided and instructions had been issued to correct it, said reports.

The accident site is some 30 km from the district headquarters.
