Passenger fares and freight rates untouched in the interim Rail budget

New Delhi: Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said three new factories – rail wheel plant in Chhapra, rail coach factory at Rae Bareli and diesel component factory at Dankuni – have become functional and commenced production during 2013-14.
Kharge, who presented the interim railway budget in the Lok Sabha, said, “Specially designed coaches for adverse weather conditions have been inducted for rail travel in Kashmir Valley. The passenger fares and freight rates were left untouched in the interim rail budget for 2014-15. 17 new premium trains, 38 express trains, 10 passenger trains besides initiatives to ensure safety to eliminate loss of lives and property formed part of the budget..

Kharge emphasized that Railway safety will never be compromised, and said that several measures have been taken and more are in the pipeline to further strengthen safety.
