Pak Says Arrest of Diplomat Is India’s Internal Matter

A day after arrest of an Indian diplomat on charge of espionage for ISI, Pakistan has said that it will not affect bilateral activities during the SAARC summit, said media reports.

Foreign office spokesman Abdul Basit said that Pakistan government didn’t yet have any official information in the regard from India, said reports.

He described the arrest as an ‘internal matter’, saying that it would not impact SAARC activities, reports said.

Madhuri Gupta, Indian diplomat posted in Islamabad, was taken into custody last week in New Delhi on charges of passing information to ISI.

Ministry of external affairs summoned her to India on the pretext of discussions over SAARC summit.

Earlier in the day, External affairs minister SM Krishna said that Gupta’s arrest was a ‘serious’ issue and the government would do whatever was needed after finding out her ‘motive and modus operandi’.
