Over Rs. 11 thousand 160 crore paid to farmers Wheat procured from 9.83 lakh farmers

Bhopal: This year, 72 lakh MT wheat has been procured on support price in Madhya Pradesh from 9 lakh 83 thousand 436 farmers. A sum of about Rs. 11 thousand 160 crore has been paid to farmers against procurement of wheat. As much as 63 lakh 51 thousand MT wheat was procured last year.
This year, wheat was procured from farmers at the rate of Rs. 1550 per quintal including Rs. 150 per quintal bonus given by state government. Bonus worth Rs. 1080 crore was paid to farmers by the state government. Arrangements were made to deposit payments directly in their bank accounts within 7 days so that they did not have to wander for payment. Food and Civil Supplies Department had made arrangements to send SMS to farmers to bring their produce for selling on a specific day so that they should not wait for selling their produce.
The state government had authorised State Civil Supplies Corporation and State Marketing Federation (MARKFED) for procuring wheat. As many as 2,980 centres were set up to procure wheat. In view of farmers’ convenience, wheat was procured till May 30 in 7 districts including Bhind Chhatarpur, Umaria, Rewa, Satna, Sidhi and Singrauli and till May 26 in remaining districts.
