Osmania Studens Call for New Year Celebration Boycott

Osmania University students have called upon people in Hyderabad to boycott New Year celebration in support of their demand for separate statehood to Telangana.

“We urge people to boycott New Year celebrations to press the Government to take immediate steps for the formation of Telangana state,” the student leaders said.

Also, they affirmed that they would go ahead with the proposed massive students’ convention on January 3 though the city Police Commissioner B Prasad Rao said that permission had not been granted to hold the meeting.

Pledging to gather nearly four-five lakh students for the convention, the student leaders said that at least one youth from every family in Telangana should attend the meet.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the Varsity campus on Tuesday when police stopped a demonstration by the students.
